"Lovely one,
With delicate hands and slender feet
Like a silver pony,
Walking, flower of the world,
Thus I see you,
Lovely one."
-excerpt of Lovely One by Pablo Neruda
Ryan is one of the lovely ones. Photographing with him is to touch a free spirit in this world. In these days of pixels, and screens, our faces glued to our phones, glued to our hands - never looking up- facebook, emails, newsletters, ads, digital digital digital - it's refreshing to get back to the physical - the rawness of creating art with our bodies. It liberates my spirit from the everyday - the mundane, the uninspired, the repetition, the darkness. Being near an artist as open as Ryan, with his sensitivity to the goodness in every person, my best self is drawn out. We create together - we create moments - we create a language that moves beyond words. The important part is we create. Creating with someone this unafraid slays the fear dragon inside and makes me want to keep creating. Marcel Duchamp says, "Art is a habit-forming drug." I am glad to photograph someone who fuels that habit for me. This was our last Colorado session for a while, as Ryan is now gracing California with his blossoming presence - but I am so happy for everyone who now gets to feel his light on the west coast, and wherever else his talents take him. His talent is scorching - it fuels those around him, igniting passion for art, and passion for life. I'm so thankful to have him in my life, and now I have even more of a reason to visit the golden state!
Oh Lana Turner we love you get up.
