Karen + Doug || Camp Hale, Colorado
This was one of the coldest and rainiest, yet warmest and most welcoming weddings we've photographed all year. Karen and Doug are from Boulder, and got married up at Camp Hale, which, if you've never been there, is in the middle of nowhere Colorado. No, that's not true- it's actually pretty near Leadville- but Leadville is in the middle of nowhere Colorado. This down to earth and sweet couple wanted to spend their wedding day with their closest family and friends, get married beneath the beautiful Colorado Rockies, and cozy up after a full night of dinner and dancing by a beautiful bonfire under the stars, which they totally did.
Karen is creative, fun, smart, silly, easy to laugh, and a true beauty, inside and out. Doug is funny, sweet, determined, and has a way of making everyone hanging out with him feel at home. When we met up to discuss their wedding details way back at the beginning of this year I fell in love with them as a couple, and have been looking forward to this wedding the. whole. year. It did NOT disappoint.
They started the day in the quaint little cabins on-site, getting ready, hanging out with their adorable dogs, putting all the flowers together (including the gorgeous flower crown!), and enjoying time with everyone who came in to celebrate with them. We drove up a pretttty intense 4x4 road to take some couples portraits, but got socked in with rain and fog, so we made-do with the side of the mountain instead of the tip-tippity-top. Karen and Doug are the most laid-back, super-chill couple and were so excited about getting married that nothing could dampen their smiles, not even the literal rain. When we came back down from the mountain it was still misting a bit, but as soon as the wedding party lined up for the procession down the aisle - BOOM! - the sun came out! It actually even got downright hot! They had such a moving and meaningful ceremony, complete with the cracking of a geode (what? how cool is that?!) and the sun stayed out long enough for everyone to make it back to the reception tent to dine, dance, and party the night away.
Camp Hale is one of the prettiest venues we've ever been to, and although it's 9,200 feet above sea level, and a bit of a trek, it was so worth it to have such an epic setting for this wedding. We loved getting to know everyone who came to celebrate this couple, and sharing in this beautiful love story. It is honest, warm, welcoming, lovely people like Karen and Doug that make wedding photography a dream-come-true profession instead of just a job. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for choosing us to capture this day for you, and cheers to a fun and vibrant life together!
